The Bru Boru Centre is located by the Rock of Cashel, and features a folk theatre, craft and information centre and a genealogy suite. Here you can also enjoy traditional Irish music, singing and dancing provided by the world renowned Bru Boru group of Irish musicians. The centre is home to a series of underground chambers, seven metres below the surface, that tell the story of Ireland over the centuries.

Cahir Castle is situated on a rocky island on the River Suir and is one of Ireland’s largest and best preserved castles. Formerly the stronghold of the Butler family, today the castle features an audiovisual show outlining the main sites of the area, as well as several exhibitions. Located in the town of heritage town of Cahir, the castle retains much of its original structure.

The Plantarum at Dundrum contains more than 60,000 plants of more than 2,000 varieties and covers an area of eight acres. With a Celtic theme running throughout the site, a number of dolmens, crannogs, fairy forts, lakes and waterfalls are to be found. Situated on the edge of Dundrum in County Tipperary, the plantarum is open throughout the year and access is free of charge.

Holy Cross Abbey, founded in 1169 by the King of Thomond, is one of Europe’s most significant early monastic sites. A relic of the true cross on which Christ was crucified was given to the abbey, making it a place of pilgrimage for people from all over Ireland. The cross, given by St Peter’s Basilica in 1977, is positioned in the north transept of the abbey.

Mitchelstown Cave is a well developed cave network with passageways leading to the Tower of Babel formation deep underground. Filled with drip stone formations, calcite curtains and crystals, stalactites and stalagmites, a full guide service is available. The cave is set next to the Galty Mountains in County Tipperary and the setting proves ideal for school trips as well as family days out.

The Rock of Cashel is one of the most magnificent mediaeval edifices in all of Ireland, dominating the surrounding plains. The fortress was formerly the seat of the Kings of Munster and is also believed to be the site where St Patrick picked a shamrock to explain the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. At 28 metres tall, the tallest of the buildings at the Rock of Cashel is the round tower which was built as long ago as 1100.

Visitors can take a tour of the Tipperary Crystal Factory close to the River Suir, where they can see Tipperary Crystal being made in the time honoured way. Founded in the 1980s the company brings together skilled workers and crafters and it has become something of a famous Irish producer.
