The County Monaghan Museum is an award-winning establishment, having won both the Council of Europe Museum prize and the Gulbenkian - Norwich Union award. It hosts a collection of local historical artefacts including the 14th century Cross of Clogher. The museum first opened in 1974 in a building made up of two houses, and in addition to its various exhibits and displays the museum also puts on talks, family fun days and tours.

Constructed between 1861 and 1891, St Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan is one of Ireland’s most spectacular gothic churches. The Catholic church’s spire, made from limestone like the rest of the structure, was built in 1882 and it stands at 81 metres tall.
