A 100-foot high round tower and a number of crosses are to be found at Kells. The tower dates from the 11th century and was the site of Murchadh Mac Flainn, High King of Ireland’s murder in 1076. The High Crosses, meanwhile, are decorated with biblical scenes and are considered to be among Ireland’s most important crosses.

Older than the pyramids, Brú na Bóinne is a complex of megalithic tombs. Designated a World Heritage Site, the region contains more than 40 passage graves. The visitor centre in the village of Donore is the starting point for visitors to Brú na Bóinne. From here, visitors can take a shuttle bus to the Neolithic passage tombs of Newgrange and Knowth. Stunning on both terms of scale and presentation, Brú na Bóinne is one of the most important Neolithic sites in the whole of Europe.

The Hill of Tara is a vast defensive fortification formerly the seat of the High King’s of Ireland. Visitors can access the site all year round, but guided tours are available only during the summer months. The hill is 1.6 kilometres from the centre of Navan and here you can also watch audiovisual presentations or simply wander round at your leisure.

Newgrange Open Farm is a traditional working farm where visitors can pet and feed a selection of farm animals, see demonstration displays of crops and vintage farm implements, and even enjoy trailer rides. As a result, it is immensely popular with families. The farm covers 333 acres of land in County Meath and there is also a gift shop and a coffee shop onsite too.

Trim Castle was constructed in the 12th century and is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland and one of the largest in Europe. The site is one of Ireland’s most impressive and was used in several scenes of Mel Gibson’s smash hit film Braveheart. Situated in the centre of the town of Trim, guests can explore the castle through a guided tour which lasts 45 minutes.
