Containing more than 2,000 artefacts from stone-age Ireland to ancient Egypt, the Hunt Museum may be small but is nevertheless impressive. The most famous pieces contained in the museum are the Antrim Cross, a 9th century bronze and enamel cross, a small sketching by Picasso and a bronze horse designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

Constructed during the 13th century on King’s Island in the heart of mediaeval Limerick, King John’s Castle contains a number of animations and interactive displays narrating the history of the castle. Offering panoramic views of the River Shannon, the castle also contains a historical exhibition, a reconstruction of the mediaeval courtyard, excavated pre-Norman houses and King John’s Mint where visitors can collect replicas of original coins.

Incorporating elements of the palace of Donal Mor O'Brien King of Munster which had previously stood on the site, St Mary’s Cathedral is the oldest and most historic building in Limerick having been founded in 1168. It is believed to have been used as a stable by Cromwellian forces in 1651, while the stones surrounding the West Door were used by Limerick’s defenders to sharpen their swords throughout the city’s long history, leaving marks that can be seen to this day.
