It is thought that Rathfarnham Castle was built in 1582 and, uniquely, it has a number of secret underground tunnels beneath its buildings. Built for Archbishop Loftus initially, the castle has been handed on to several different families over time. The castle has also been used as a station for troops in times gone by, while in 1641 it even came under siege during a rebellion.
